Well-known Irish celebrity charged with defilement of a child has passport returned for two weeks

The well-known Irish celebrity who was charged with defilement of a child earlier this year has had his bail varied to allow the return of his passport for two weeks.

The entertainer, who can not be publicly named for legal reasons, was arrested by officers from a Divisional Protective Services Bureau in February and brought before the Dublin District Court.

The man, who is in his 40s, was then charged with three counts of engaging in a sexual act with a child under the age of 17.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between 12 and 13 years ago in Dublin.

On Monday, his case was listed before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for a variation in bail terms which was granted on consent.

Judge Orla Crowe granted a variation of bail allowing the accused’s passport to be returned from August 3 to 18, 2023.

He is to give details of his flights and accommodation to the Gardaí.

The trial, which is expected to last four or five days, will begin in Dublin’s Circuit Criminal Court on October 9.
