Emmy Awards ‘set to be postponed’ amid ongoing Hollywood strikes

The 2023 Emmy Awards are reportedly set to be postponed amid the ongoing Hollywood strikes.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the annual awards ceremony, which is scheduled to air on September 18, could be pushed back as far as January.

Meanwhile, Variety reported “vendors, producers and others involved with the event” have already been informed of the delay, which has yet to officially be announced.

If the actors’ strike is still in effect at the time of the Emmy Awards, stars would be unable to step out at the ceremony; Meanwhile, writers wouldn’t be allowed to script a monologue or jokes for the show’s host and presenters.

The Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists’ (SAG-AFTRA) announced an official strike, after failing to reach an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers following over four weeks of negotiations.

Members of SAG-AFTRA have joined more than 11,000 already striking film and television writers, effectively shutting down Hollywood.

The strike announcement came on July 13 amid the London premiere of Oppenheimer, prompting the cast including Cillian, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr, Kenneth Branagh and Rami Malek to leave before the screening of the film.

The 2023 Emmy Awards is scheduled to take place on September 18, airing on Fox in the US.

The awards ceremony will honour the best in television from June 1, 2022 until May 31, 2023.
