Fears for Nicky Byrne's Eurovision chances as drummer pulls out

Nicky Byrne has revealed at a press conference over the weekend that his drummer has pulled out before the Eurovision semi- final.

The drummer, Paul Kenny, didn’t travel with Team Nicky to Sweden last week as his father had passed away.

“Paul’s dad sadly passed away on Thursday so he didn’t travel with us on Tuesday which is obviously a bit of a blow but our thoughts are with him family now and Paul,” the radio DJ admitted.

The 2FM radio host introduced a Swedish drummer, John Sundvall, as a replacement for the first show.

The Westlife star also admitted that he “hit a ropey note that seemed to stay with me for the next few days” during the early rehearsals.

“But that’s what rehearsals are for.  You’re professional enough to take the good with the bad and see where you go wrong and we’ve got a great team of people who are flying the flag and we’ll give our absolute best to get in the final and if our best isn’t good enough we’ll look again next year.”

The father of two revealed that despite the bumps, his team will keep working hard to get better and better.

“I think we still, the head of the delegation here, Michael, and management and stuff, we’re our own worst critics and we all know we can all get better and make it the best we can,” he added.

The news comes after Linda Martin recently commented that she believes the Sunlight singer won’t win the contest.
