Villagers frontman: ‘I don’t feel comfortable holding a man’s hand in London’

Villagers’ Conor O’Brien has revealed that he still finds it uncomfortable holding a man’s hand in public.

The 32-year-old admitted that he would feel awkward partaking in PDA with a man in even some of the most open and cultured cities, like London.

“Around the world, there’s so much work to do,” he admitted.

“[London is] a metropolis and a bastion of culture.

“But there are only certain places where I’d feel comfortable holding a dude’s hand in the street – let alone doing other things,” the singer told Gigwise.

“We’re still living in a hetero-normative world.”

Despite this, the Dubliner admitted that in Ireland, there is more freedom for the LGBTQ community to be open.

“From the moment I was conceived, I felt a little awkward existing, whereas now I can feel it when you walk around Dublin and other parts of Ireland,” he said.

“You can feel it in the streets, everywhere.”
