The Riptide Movement's Jay reveals he's CONSTANTLY mistaken for Hozier

The Riptide Movement’s Jay aka John Dalton has revealed he is often mistaken for Grammy nominee Hozier.

The Dublin rocker admitted people have stopped him on the street and asked him to sing Take Me To Church “around 2 in the morning”.

“I get confused for him in subway around two in the morning on Westmoreland Street,” Jay told Goss.ie.

“Someone asked me to sing Take Me To Church,” he admitted.

The Riptide Movement are up against the Wicklow star for the Meteor Choice Music Prize and Jay reckons he could get away with accepting the award on Hozier’s behalf.

“Hozier is brilliant. I’m gonna go up and accept the award if he wins,” he laughed.

The boys are up for Irish Song of the Year and Album of The Year and Gerald admitted he completely forgot to even check the nominations until his manager sent him his congratulations.

“It’s an honour to be nominated, we’re delighted. We’re fans of music for years, I forgot that the nominations were to be announced and then I got a text from our label saying congrats on the nomination,” he said.

On his fellow nominees, Gerald said: “Hozier is the most famous out of all of them because of the year he’s had. Aside from that, I liked Sinead O’Connor.”

“They’re all great, they’re all strong contenders. It’s that kind of a race where anyone can win it, its a good buzz to me in it because you never know.

Meanwhile, Jay revealed that after working a tough office gig for several years, his biggest struggle on the job now is keeping the hangovers under control.

“After working in an office for a few years, music  is still a great job, you have to manage the hangovers as best you can.

“I worked in Enterprise Ireland for about five or six years, it was a good job but I like playing music better.”
