MTV festival cancelled in Belfast

An MTV festival in Belfast has been cancelled by the city council because of the competition from other music festivals.

The city is a popular spot for MTV as it hosted the European Music Awards back in 2011 where guests such as Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber were in attendance.

“The MTV gig planned for September is not going ahead due to a number of other competing musical events during the same month,” a spokesperson for the council admitted.

The city council aren’t the only ones didn’t want the festival as Ulster Unionist councillor David Browne thought the cost of the festival was too much.

“I feel that the council is sometimes very generous with incentives to bring some of these things to Belfast and £300,000 to me is a lot of money that could have went somewhere more important and much more deserving,” he revealed to the BBC.

The festival in previous years brought in stellar acts like Olly Murs and Pixie Lott but no acts were announced for this year’s festival.
