Love/Hate Garda Kieran O'Reilly reveals he's the lead singer of a new indie band

He made headlines when he joined the cast of Love/Hate playing Detective Ciaran Madden, and now real-life Garda Kieran O’Reilly is releasing an album.

The actor caused controversy when he signed up to the RTE drama in 2013, as he had a full time job as a Drugs Unit undercover detective at the same time.

While Kieran is still working as a Garda, the actor has now revealed he’s releasing an album with his new band Hail The Ghost next March.

“It’s been a hard year writing and recording,” he said.

“I’m still a cop. That’s my only job. Outside work I’ve packed a lot in this year, I really have great support at home and it’s only because of this that I’ve been able to pursue my hobbies the way I have.

“There’s been a lot of late nights…just look at my face,” Kieran told Image daily.

After the controversial ending of Love/Hate season 5, Kiernan said he has been encouraged by co-star Brían F. O’Byrne who plays Detective Moynihan.

“We Skype a lot and he’s always been encouraging us to release something since I played him the first song a year ago; he’s nearly at manager status now.

“Love/Hate has been surreal. I never really anticipated all that came from it. It’s been really positive and a huge learning curve.

“It’s made me realise a lot of things personally. I suppose I didn’t realise a lot of things at the time because Love/Hate is kind of a whirlwind in itself.

“It’s kind of only setting in now how amazing the last two seasons have been and how lucky I was to even be a part of it,” he said.

The actor and budding singer said working alongside Tom Vaughan Lawlor and Peter Coonan was an amazing experience.

And Kieran added that he hopes he can return for season 6.

“To work with actors like those two was a privilege. Both men are extremely professional and very talented. I watched them very closely to try and learn as much as I could.

“I think if Love/Hate did come back. I think there’s a reasonable chance I might be in it but then again, who knows?”

In the meantime Kieran is starring in a short film called Little Bear next month which is directed by assistant directors from Love/Hate.
