From Nidge's misses to musical star! Aoibhinn McGinnity shows off singing skills

Aoibhinn McGinnity has shown off her singing skills after the explosive ending of Love/Hate.

The Monaghan actress is best known for playing Dublin gang land wife Trish in the RTE drama, but is now revealing her softer side.

Performing on the Late Late Show for the first time, Aoibhinn sang a song from West End production Elf The Musical – which she will be performing at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre next month.

Talking to Ryan Tubridy about the new role, Aoibhinn said she was normally quite shy about singing.

“I was always really shy about it but in college I had to do it. We had no choice but to get better. It’s kind of good to do it that way,” she said.

Aoibhinn, 28, revealed she got the role of Jovie after brushing up on her singing skills.

“I got an audition through people I know in the Bord Gais, but I got a few singing lessons before hand to get back on track.

“And that was it really. I got the part the next day. We’re mid rehearsals now so I’m really looking forward to getting into it,” she said.

Meanwhile Aoibhinn said she was delighted to share scenes with real life friend Charlie Murphy in the final episodes of Love/Hate.

“We got really excited when we saw the scenes we’d be working on together, we didn’t get to really. The last time we had a scene together was years ago,” she explained.

“And we are really good friends in real life. The biggest thing for me is trust and I trusted Tom (Nidge) so much and I trust her.

Aoibhinn wasn’t the only performer on the Late Late Show last night, her ex boyfriend Danny O’Reilly also took to the stage with his band The Coronas.

The former couple performed straight after each other, as The Coronas debuted their new single Just Like That.
