What a good friend! Hozier reveals he hired his MATES to play in his band

Hozier is quickly rising to international fame and he is taking his college pals along for the ride.

The Wicklow singer has revealed his band mates are actually his friends from college.

Hozier admitted he is still playing with the friends he made while studying Music at Trinity College Dublin.

“I am still playing with folks I met in college, Alex Ryan there and Karen were in Trinity too,” he said.

Speaking on The Imelda May show, Hozier said he yearned to be a singer while studying in college.

“I wanted to write songs. Learning the rules that were a hundred years ago,” he said.

The Take Me To Church singer said he finally got his big break when he decided to record songs in the attic of his house.

“I just felt it was something that I always wanted to try on my own,” he said.

“Something I wanted to try get across some atmosphere something I hadn’t articulated so I just spent some time and recorded in the attic.”

Debut album: Hozier is set to release his new studio album next month

After previously performing on David Letterman and The Ellen Show, the Wicklow man is set to perform on legendary US show Saturday Night Live.

Despite such international performances, Hozier said playing Electric Picnic this summer was his highlight so far.

“On the day at the time you’re not thinking about it. Or even during the show It wasn’t until the following day when I saw ariel footage of it and stud so yeah It was a big crowd.”
