Ex-Westlife star Nicky Byrne has revealed he’s recorded most of a solo album – but doesn’t expect to release it for two years.
The 2FM DJ told Goss.ie he has laid down nine tracks for the album, which Nicky says is “kind of cheeky pop” and he is “loving it”.
He added: “I’ve no deal at the moment, I’m not even looking for one until I have it ready.
“But it’s amazing when you get into the studio yourself, and you’re co-writing it, the buzz you get.”

The Dublin singer said is it very “different” singing by himself but is looking forward to eventually releasing it.
Asked if it will be weird singing on own, Nicky replied: “Yeah. I haven’t had to do it yet. I’ve spoken to Shane about it and it is weird obviously.
“But I think when you’ve written all the songs yourself – and maybe this is different to Westlife, because every song was pretty much written for you. And of course Shane and Mark did most of the leads so it was different again.
“But I think when you’ve written all the songs, even singing the ones I’ve written in the car to myself, immediately you put yourself in that position where you wrote it and what it was about, what you mean, which we didn’t have in Westlife.

“So it will faze me a little bit, but I’m looking forward to it.”
However Nicky insists he won’t be quitting his job in 2FM to go on tour.
He added: “We will sit down whenever that happens. It could be two years away. I will take a bulk of time for promotion and just have a go of it and see how it goes.
“But I love the radio, I could never give that up. I’m sure we’ll have to come for some arrangement.”
