Ed Sheeran pens song dedicated to his Irish granny

The singer's family all hail from Ireland

Ed Sheeran has penned a new song dedicated to his Irish granny.

The singer was born and raised in the UK, but his parents were both Irish Catholics and have retired to the Wicklow countryside.

“He has a song about his Irish grandmother on [the new album],” a source said.

The 25-year-old is said to be back working again after calling off his hiatus to perform at a charity gig last month – and it seems like he’s been a busy man with 17 new songs written for his new album.

“There are 17 songs on the album, but Ed is trying to whittle that down. He has a song about his Irish grandmother on it,” the source told the Irish Daily Star.

“The new album is in the final mix. He had hoped it would be released by Christmas, but it looks like it won’t be out until January.”

Ed played a sold out show at the huge Croke Park stadium in the summer of 2015, and supposedly stayed in his granny’s home ahead of it.
