This is why Colin Firth won’t be in the fourth Bridget Jones movie

It’s official: we’re finally getting a fourth Bridget Jones movie!

However, fans will be disappointed by the absence of one major character…

While Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant will reprise their roles for the next instalment, Colin Firth won’t be returning as Mark Darcy.

Mark and Bridget finally got married in the third movie Bridget Jones’ Baby

Titled Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, the fourth film is set for release on Valentine’s Day in 2025.

The film will be adapted from Helen Fielding’s 2013 novel of the same name.

As fans of the books will know, Mad About the Boy is set four years after the previous instalment, and sees Bridget a widow with two small children, after Mark is killed by a landmine in Sudan.

Sadly, this means the film won’t feature Bridget’s beloved husband Mark, but he may appear in some flashback scenes.

Renée will return as the beloved lead Bridget, while Hugh will reprise his role as her former love interest Daniel Cleaver.

Emma Thompson, who starred in the third instalment as Bridget’s obstetrician, will also return for the fourth movie.

According to reports, Leo Woodall is joining the cast as a potential love interest for Bridget.

The British heartthrob, best known for his roles in Netflix’s One Day and HBO’s The White Lotus, is set to play a 30-year-old man who Bridget starts sleeping with following her bereavement.

The film will start shooting in London this summer.
