Everyone is saying the same thing about Baby Reindeer on Netflix

Baby Reindeer landed on Netflix last week, and has left viewers glued to their seats for the whole eight episodes.

The limited series, starring Richard Gadd and Jessica Ganning, follows the real-life story of the actor’s experience with a female stalker.

The streaming service described it: “When comedian-slash-barman Donny offers a lonely woman a drink in a Camden pub, he never expects a free cuppa would come with a side of obsession.”

The captivating show is based on Richard’s one-man play, which he debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

In the series, the comedian’s character Donny offers Martha, played by Jessica Ganning, a drink while at the bar he works at, unknowingly starting the nightmarish situation.

At first she appears to be friendly, but her behaviour slowly becomes obsessive as she begins to stalk Donny both online and in real life.

The show explores the writer’s own responsibility and the lack of support from the authorities when he was stalked by a woman for four years.

The series attempts to turn the tropes of the genre on its head by showcasing the realities of female stalking, as well as focusing on how it’s often rooted in mental illness.

Although Baby Reindeer is mostly true, Richard revealed to The Guardian that he did exaggerate the tension for the sake of the show and said: “The feeling you get most of all when you’re getting harassed is relentless tediousness and frustration. I didn’t want the audience to feel that.”

The limited series dropped on Netflix on April 11th and all eight episodes are available to stream now.

It’s safe to say the show has caused a huge stir on social media, as viewers have been left in disbelief over the “crazy” plot, and how its based on a true story.
