Cillian Murphy: 'I had to lose weight for new movie role, I was STARVING going to bed'

Cillian Murphy has admitted his latest movie role was the toughest yet.

The Irish actor stars in Ron Howard’s new film Heart of The Sea, based on the real-lif events in the 1800s that inspired Herman Melville’s Moby Dick.

Starring alongside Thor’s Chris Hemsworth and Brendan Gleeson, Cillian admitted he had to starve himself for the role.

“(The weight loss) was very difficult, I’m not going to lie and I haven’t ever really had to lose weight for a role, at least to this extreme,” he said.

“I didn’t lose loads of weight but my stomach would rumble in the evening. I would be hungry going to bed and that starts to affect your mood and your general feeling.”

“It’s not something I’d necessarily want to repeat,” he told the Irish Sun.

Meanwhile Cillian, 38, who stars in the new series of BBC drama Peaky Blinders, admitted he would rather do more TV and stage work, as movies take him away from his family for long periods of time.

“It’s getting more and more difficult to schedule and slot in different projects and, I will admit, much of my interest is on the stage now. I just love feeling that energy from an audience.

“And currently, the quality of television is so high, a lot of my interest is being focused in that direction.,” he said.

“Films take me away from home for long periods and I guess I’m quite selective now, to the point of I kind of like doing work that means I’m not travelling so much.”
