Cecelia Ahern insists: 'My dad didn't get me my movie career'

Cecelia Ahern has said her father Bertie Ahern has never once helped her land a movie deal.

The famous Irish author became a worldwide name when her novel PS I Love You got made into a movie starring Gerard Butler and Hilary Swank, but Cecelia has said she got the deal all on her own.

While at first Cecelia thought the rumours were funny, now she feels she has to stand up for herself.

“I had to bite my lip and be as calm and polite as possible,” she told The Seven O’Clock Show.

“It wasn’t just hinted at, I was asked ‘Did your dad get you this deal?’ It was also hinted at in articles that were written.

“As if my dad was going to ring up Warner Brothers, ‘Hello, it’s the Taoiseach here from Ireland, could you make my daughter’s book into a movie?’

“It was just so ridiculous. At the time it didn’t bother me because I knew it was ridiculous,” she explained.

Success: Cecelia is back working with Warner Brothers

“I think now as an older, grumpier woman, if people were to be saying that to me, I wouldn’t be as calm as I was then,” she added.

Meanwhile Cecelia opened up about her latest book Flawed – which is also being turned into a movie.

The Dublin writer is back working with the same team from PS I Love You.
