Selena Gomez has responded to speculation her new song is about her ex The Weeknd.
The former Disney Channel star dated the singer, whose real name Abel Tesfaye, dated back in 2017.
Selena released the breakup anthem ‘Single Soon’ on Friday, and some fans believe the track was written about her split from Abel.
The lyrics of the song include: “Should I do it on the phone? / Should I leave a little note in the pocket of his coat? (Yeah) / Maybe I’ll just disappear / I don’t wanna see a tear / And the weekend’s almost here.”
Selena has since set the record straight on the speculation, commenting on an Instagram post by Hollywood Life: “couldn’t be more false.”
The Rare Beauty founder’s split from The Weeknd was reportedly “a mutual decision”, with a source telling E! News at the time “distance definitely played a factor.”
The insider explained: “It was more of a mutual break up. They were distant because of work. It didn’t end in a bad way.”
Shortly after their breakup, The Weeknd rekindled his romance with model Bella Hadid.
The pair stayed together for over a year, before splitting once again in August 2019.
