ReneƩ Rapp has used her time in the spotlight to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
On Thursday night, the singer and actress was awarded with one of the top prizes at the GLAAD Media Awards, scooping up the trophy for Outstanding Music Artist for her album Snow Angel.Ā
In her acceptance speech, the star also implored her fans to “continue to advocate for yourselves, continue to advocate for your friends, your queer friends, and for those who can’t advocate for themselves.”

The musician has previously been revered online for her so-called “lack of media-training” and her ability to speak her mind while on the Mean Girls Movie press tour.
The outspoken starlet went viral when a video of her name-dropping an employee who treated her friends and her own mother badly was shared across social media.
At the time, social media users hailed the star as “authentic” and “down to earth”.

Fans particularly loved how Rapp recognized her privilege in taking the stage in a room filled with high-profile celebrities.
And while she is not the only celebrity to have spoken out in support of Palestine during the ongoing conflict, Rapp’s status as a breakthrough star has fans commending her for her courage.
One fan wrote, “There’s so many other artists who have much bigger platforms and who have not yet said anything, and yet you have Renee Rapp, whose music career is just getting started, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Use your platforms for good.”

This vocal announcement is welcomed as mounted criticism increases against established celebrities with large fanbases who have yet to make a statement on the issue.
And although the Oscars had no lack of celebrities, including Billie Eilish and Mark Ruffalo, wearing the artists4ceasefire pins on their outfits, fans feel that bigger action needs to be taken.

One user congratulated Rapp for her vocal support instead of “putting an artists for ceasefire pin on and thinking that was enough activism.”
These events have lead fans to question why artists as big as BeyoncƩ and Taylor Swift, possibly the two most powerful artists in the world, have remained silent on the subject.
