Release of documentary narrated by Alec Baldwin postponed after fatal shooting

The release of a documentary narrated by Alec Baldwin has been postponed, after the fatal shooting that took place on the set of his film Rust.

On Thursday, the actor accidentally misfired a prop gun on set in New Mexico, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza.

Following the tragic accident, a documentary he narrated exploring the water crisis in Flint has had it’s US and Canadian release date postponed.

Filmmaker Anthony Baxter shared the news on Twitter, writing: “We’ve postponed the US theatrical & digital release of @FlintTheMovie following recent tragic events out of respect.”

Enabling the #Flint residents’ story to be heard remains hugely important to me. We will ensure the film’s release at a later date,” he added.

The documentary was originally scheduled for release on October 29.

Anthony also said: “Out of the deepest respect for all those affected by this terrible tragedy, we feel now is not the time to release Flint: Who Can You Trust?”

“The film sheds a crucial spotlight on the ongoing plight of Flint residents because of the water disaster. However, we will now be positioning the film for release in the US at a future date.”

Production of the movie Rust has also been postponed while police investigate the incident.

Addressing the accidental shooting, Alec tweeted last week: “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.”

“I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family.”

“My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

Officers were called to the Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico, where the incident occurred, at about 1.50 pm on Thursday, after receiving a 911 call.

Halyna, 42, was transported via helicopter to University of New Mexico Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

Joel, 48, was treated for his injuries at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, and was later released.
