Police clear Cardi B of battery investigation in mic-throwing incident

Las Vegas police have cleared Cardi B of a criminal battery investigation, after she allegedly hit a concert-goer with a microphone she threw from the stage.

The incident, which has gone viral on social media, occurred while the rapper was performing at Drai’s Beachclub in Las Vegas last month.

A fan threw a drink on the mother-of-two while she was performing and in retaliation, Cardi hurled her microphone at them – before security appeared to escort them away.

However, some videos online appear to show the mic hitting a different member of the audience.

Earlier this month, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said a woman, who has not been named, reported a battery case to the force one day after the concert.

In a statement, police said: “According to the victim, she was attending an event on July 29, 2023, at a property located in the 3500 block of Las Vegas Boulevard.”

“During a concert, she was struck by an item that was thrown from the stage.”

Las Vegas police have since cleared Cardi of a criminal battery investigation in relation to the incident.

The Clark County District Attorney’s Office said: “After a thorough review of this case and with the consultation from this case has been closed as having insufficient evidence.”

“No charges will be filed in relation to this case.”

Cardi is the latest victim of a trend on social media, in which concertgoers throw things at performers hoping to go viral.

A host of well-known performers have recently been victimised at their concerts – including Bebe Rexha, Harry Styles, Ava Max, Pink, Drake, Kid Cudi, and Kelsea Ballerini.

Last month, pop singer Bebe Rexha sustained injuries to her face when she was hit by a mobile phone on stage in New York.

The 33-year-old was left with a large purple bruise on her eyelid and stitching tape on her eyebrow.

A 27-year-old man was later arrested and charged over the incident.
