Axed Selling Sunset star Heather Rae Young brands the series ‘very toxic’

Heather Rae Young has slammed Selling Sunset as “very toxic”, after she was axed from the show last year.

The real estate agent looked back on her time filming the hit Netflix series while appearing as a guest on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast this week.

She revealed: “It was a blessing that I wasn’t asked to come back because I’m so much happier filming my show with Tarek.”

Heather was one of the original Selling Sunset cast members, but her time came to an end after seven seasons on the show.

The 36-year-old was joined on the podcast episode by her husband Tarek El Moussa, with whom who she produces and stars in the HGTV show The Flipping El Moussas.

She opened up about the differences between filming her own show now and Selling Sunset.

She explained: “We’re co-producers on our show so we pick the hours. With Selling Sunset, I never knew when I was going to be filming.”

“It was last minute, it took over my life, it was hard to do my real job — real estate. It was hard to do anything else.”

She recalled often working on the show for 12-14 hours per day and arriving home in tears.

“It was crazy. They just want more and more and more and you saw me on the show,” she said.

Heather noted: “I pretty much was level-headed almost the whole time. I was kind of friends with everyone and I kept things pretty chill in my life.”

She described her former show as “very toxic.”

She added: “You’re around a bunch of women [who all want] to be stars on the show, you know, number one. And they’ll kind of do anything.”

Just last week, Heather took to Instagram to talk about the challenges of being a parent.

She gave birth to son Tristan in January 2023, and is also stepmom to her husband’s daughter Taylor, 13, and son Brayden, 8 – who he shares with ex-wife Christina Hall.

She expressed her gratitude for her kids and motherhood on social media with a touching post.

She wrote: “All 3 of the kids have made me a better person in different ways. I got my feet wet with Tay & Bray & then Tristan’s sweet soul chose me to be his mama.”

She added: “The kids have given me different perspective of life. There is a different purpose when you become a mother, you think different, you feel different.”

“Life is more fun, but scary, I worry about things I’ve never worried about before. It’s chaotic but it’s beautiful chaos.

“I barely rest, I never have lazy days. Some days I miss that. But the alternative is SO much better.”
