Lady Gaga names new album after her late aunt

Lady Gaga has revealed that she named her new album after her late aunt.

The songwriter’s new album titled Joanne will be her first album since 2013’s Artpop and her first track from was released just a few days ago.

“The decision to ultimately name the album Joanne was in tribute to my father’s sister who died when she was 19,” she said.

The singer admitted that her middle name Joanne was given to her in honour of her aunt.

“He was younger than her and she was very sick with lupus,” she told Zane Low on Beats 1.

“The death of her in his family and in his life, it really left a scar and a wound that never healed.

“As I returned to my home life and spending time with my friends and hanging out with my family, what I realised is the experiences about family, as in our challenges and our toughness, is what makes us who we are.”

The New Yorker also revealed what her new album is all about.

“It’s everything about Joanne – it’s all the toughness of the pain that happened as the result of losing her that made us all strong and made us who we are,” she said.

“She is the woman of my past that is helping me bring more of my honest woman self int the future.”

The new album comes out on October 21st.
