As award season seriously heats up – both Saoirse Ronan and Michael Fassbender have both landed top nominations.
The stellar actors have both been nominated for a string of awards this year – with Oscar buzz surrounding both stars.
Now Saoirse has received a nomination for Best Actress for her role in Brooklyn and Michael Fassbeender is up for Best Actor for his performance in Jobs.
Ironically Saoirse is actually up against Michael Fassbender’s girlfriend Alicia Vikander, who is nominated for The Danish Girl.
She also faces stiff competition from Cate Blanchett, who is nominated for Carol, and Brie Larson who plays the lead in Lenny Abrahamson’s Room.
Meanwhile Michael is in the same category as Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant and Eddie Redmaybe for The Danish Girl.
One big shock is that Lenny Abrahamson’s Room didn’t get the nod for Best Film – as it is nominated for a Golden Globe and tipped for an Oscar.
However writer Emma Donoghue was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay.
And despite being credited as Irish, Colin Farrell’s latest movie The Lobster and Saoirse’s Brookly are both nom boated for Outstanding British Film.
While Irish director Stephen Fingleton landed a nomination for Best Debut for his movie The Survivalist.
The BAFTAs will take place on February 14th, with Stephen Fry on hosting duties once again.
