RTÉ to spend over €1 MILLION on Brendan O'Connors new show

Brendan O’Connor is set to host his own show again on RTÉ, and our national broadcaster is set to spend €1.12 million on the show.

The RTÉ star, who lost his Saturday Night Show to the Ray D’Arcy Show slot last year, is set to front a new panel show on RTÉ1 that will “take a provocative and entertaining look at the week’s events”.

RTÉ have a generous budget of €70k per hour-long episode, not including Brendan’s salary, and are currently looking for a “suitably experienced” production company to work on the show.

As the show’s host, Brendan will be joined by two or three guests every week from a panel of eight regular contributors, and the show will also feature one studio guest and a competition every week.

In a brief by RTÉ, they said they want to make a change from the typical “presenter-behind-a-desk format” and potentially use “the green room and backstage areas to create a relaxed, off-the-cuff, café/pub vibe.”

As well as that they want to create a “fun, playful space where the rules are different, surprises happen and the audience is guaranteed something different” and want to promote the show heavily on social media.
