Rob Sheehan on his sex symbol status: 'It's funny people think of me that way'

Irish actor Robert Sheehan has admitted he got his new movie role for being a chatterbox rather than a sex symbol.

Starring in The Statistical Probability of Love of at First Sight opposite Hailee Steinfield, the 27-year-old revealed being able to talk was top of the director’s priorities.

“One of the reasons Dustin [director of the film] cast me was because I like to talk a lot,” he said.

“I don’t think the whole sex symbol bit was very high on the list of priorities but it’s funny that people think of me that way.”

The film centres around Hailee’s character, Hadley, who’s making her way to her father’s second wedding and meets Sheehan’s character when sparks fly.

“There are two people who are incredibly suspicious of the effects of love but find themselves hurtling towards it all the same,” he revealed.

Sober approach: Rob admitted his new film is a “far more sobering approach to love ” | VIPIRELAND.COM

“It’s a far more sober approach to love than some of the Young Adult stuff that’s come out over the last few years – a lot of it is very fantastical and sensational.

“Finding a project that doesn’t bore me to tears is hard and this is just fantastic,” he added.

Meanwhile, the handsome Laois actor will appear next in a Shakespearean inspired production, The War of the Roses at the Rose Theatre in London and revealed he’s excited to get back on stage.

“It’s exciting to be back doing theatre, it’s been several years since I’ve been on stage,” he said.

“It’s a more pure, simplistic form of acting where the actor has more authority.

“There’s a lot of fight choreography so we’ve been swishing swords about quite a bit which has been fun,” he told the Herald.

“It can be hard to remember the steps but it’s great once you’re confident and know you’re not going to chop someone’s finger off.”
