Writer of BBC series Poldark has revealed that lead actor Aidan Turner was always her top choice to play the title role.
Debbie Horsfield said that she knew “somebody pretty spectacular” had to play the coveted part of Ross Poldark.
“I started mulling over in my head what characteristics you would need,” she said.

“I wrote one name in my notebook, then didn’t say anything to anybody,” she told BBC Radio 5 Live.
When the producers suggested Aidan for the reboot of the 70s series, Debbie admitted he was always her first choice.
“Miraculously, he was available because a film he was supposed to be doing had fallen through. It was meant to be.”

Poldark has been a huge success for the BBC with millions of viewers tuning in to watch the handsome Irish actor in action.
Aidan previously admitted he finds his new found sex symbol status “a bit embarrassing”.
