Irish jerseys, celebrity attendees and more: The 9 reasons we can't wait for Ed Sheeran's Croker gigs

Ed Sheeran is definitely the man of the moment with two upcoming sold out gigs in Croke Park this weekend.

The international star will play to a crowd of 90,000 screaming fans on Friday and Saturday in Ireland’s favourite stadium.

As one of today’s most popular artists – Ed is a seasoned pro when it comes to putting on a show for fans to remember.

Ahead of his taking to the stage this weekend – Goss.ie gives you our top 9 reason we can’t wait for Ed’s Croker gigs.

1. The handmade signs

Every concert is guaranteed to have some pretty descent sides available for your amusement in the crowd.

Some of the previous notable banners at Ed’s past gigs include: “Ed build me a lego house,” and “Ed we love ur red head”.

With a rowdy Irish crowd on his hands, we can only imagine what they’ll come up with.

2. The stage selfie

Followers of Ed’s social media accounts will know that the Thinking Out Loud singer is a big fan of taking selfies from the stage.

The Suffolk native’s Instagram is filled with snaps of his audiences enjoying his gigs.

We can’t wait to see the sea of green at the weekend’s Dublin concert.

3. The celebrity attendees

fans

With fans all over the world – it’s no surprise that some of Ed’s Sheeran’s devotees are famous fans.

When the Bloodstream singer performed an intimate gig at Whelan’s earlier this year – some of the notable members of the crowd included Aidan Turner, Robbie and Claudine Keane and Lawrence Kinlan.

With a much bigger venue at hand this time, there’s bound to be a pretty impressive crop of A-listers with tickets.

4. The chance of Louise Johnston showing up

Ed and Fade Street star Louise Johnston have known each other for years – and recently rumours started swirling that they had become closer.

The pairs family reportedly knew the pair were together – however Ed later said he had a “non-existent” love life at the moment.

It should be interesting to see how “non-existent” it really is if the Dublin beauty shows up.

5. Ed Sheeran putting on another Irish jersey

At Ed’s last major Irish gig – the singer went on stage sporting an Irish soccer jersey.

The 24-year-old has frequently mentioned his love for Ireland and Irish people and is even a huge fan of RTE series Love/Hate.

With that in mind, we’re expecting another Irish jersey to be on show this weekend.

6. Gavin James performing

Rising Irish musician Gavin James is one of Ed’s opening acts and will take to the stage for the Friday gig.

Ed is a big fan of his fellow ginger and previously told him that he would be headlining Croke Park himself in five years time.

While Gavin may have admitted he’s “bricking it” ahead of the gig – we’re sure he’ll make it one to remember.

7. Bell X1 performing

Gavin James is not the only opening act for Ed – Dublin band Bell X1 will take to the stage for the singer’s Friday gig.

The alternative rock band have been together for fifteen years and Irish fans will be undoubtedly thrilled to see them perform live again.

Aside from U2, Bell X1 hold the distinction of being the band with the most airplay in their native country and are sure to put on a killer performance.

8. Hearing Bloodstream Live

Every fan of Ed will have their favourite song – but GOSS HQ are a big fan of Bloodstream.

The singer performed the hit song at the BRIT Awards this year and we can’t wait to hear it live again.

We have a good feeling hearing it in Croker will be out of this world.

9. Being in Croke Park without thinking about Garth Brooks (FOR ONCE)

After the fiasco last year with US country singer Garth Brooks’ cancelled concerts in Croke Park – we’re relieved to have the venue finally associated with someone else again.

All five of Garth’s planned Croker gigs were cancelled last year leaving more than 400,000 fans out in the cold.

Ed’s fans can rejoice as the singers weekend gigs are most definitely going ahead.
