Bad news for Ireland as Ripper Street is axed AGAIN

It was confirmed today that Victorian detective drama Ripper Street has been axed after its upcoming fifth season.

The show, which is filmed entirely in Ireland and stars Irish actors Charlene McKenna and Killian Scott, was saved by Amazon Prime after initially being dropped by the BBC – but is now unfortunately coming to an end.

The cancellation of the show, which was co-produced by Element Pictures, is a huge blow to the Irish film industry as they employed over 5,000 Irish cast, extras and crew.

Ripper Street was dropped by the BBC in 2013 due to low viewership during its second season, Amazon then took on the show a few months later.

Filming for the show’s fifth and final season is well underway in Dublin and will be released on Amazon Prime later this year, but despite rave reviews the show will not be returning for any further seasons.
