First Dates Ireland may have drawn in 250,000 viewers per week on RTÉ2, but the show has failed to develop any lasting relationships between first daters.
While some daters have agreed to a second date, none of the show’s contestants have gone any further than that, leaving viewers and producers disappointed.
One of the show’s contestants spoke to the Irish Sun and said, “The producers have rung me a few times, being really nice but dying to know if I was going to see my date again.

“They seemed disappointed when I told them I wasn’t. They seem to be keen for one of the couples on the show to begin a relationship, but it hasn’t happened yet.”
Defending the show’s success rate, a First Dates Ireland spokeswoman said, “A few of them have gone on dates since the show started.
“Simon and Tynan from episode one went on a second date and a couple from this week’s episode also went out on a second date.” However, not one punter on the second show wanted to see their date again.
“Unfortunately that is just the nature of the series. We do our best to match our daters and give them the best possible chance at finding love but it doesn’t always happen.”
“We don’t want to ruin the surprise for viewers so won’t be commenting on the number of dates who have progressed beyond a first date at this stage of the show.”
An insider also told the Irish Sun that relationships might not have blossomed due to some daters going on the show just to be on television.
“Some of the daters just want to get on television which might be seen as a disappointment for the daters who were there genuinely looking for love,” the insider said.
Although Irish First Daters haven’t been lucky in love, one contestant admitted that it was a great experience as a whole.
“I was worried that it was going to be just a bad version of the English show, but it seemed to turn out really well.
“The team are very nice,” they added.
