Yesterday we brought you the news that Dubin’s alternative rock station TXFM was closing down.
The station did not renew their licence and will be off the airwaves by October at the latest.
The news came as a blow to TXFM’s loyal listeners who have taken to social media in droves to lament the loss of the station.
Many criticized the closure as they saw the station as one of the few that was not only committed to playing commericial music with some calling it “the greatest radio station in Ireland”.
The loss of TXFM will devastate Irish radio and music. One of the only stations committed to quality broadcasts and decent music.

V bad news re TXFM not re-applying & job losses. Bang of homogenous off Dublin commercial radio. No indie, dance, country, urban stations :/

@TXFMDublin TXFM is by far the greatest radio station in Ireland, it is a lighthouse in a sea of bland mindlessness. pic.twitter.com/ghsC15jOrC

Such a shame. Best of luck to all my friends at TXFM. A finer bunch you’ll never meet. Sad times. https://t.co/WG2kQ5Dwkg

Bah, TXFM is closing down. I suppose it’s back to uncomfortable silence for our family car trips.

Really crap news that TXFM is wrapping up. Some of the best presenters and DJs in there. Bad day for Irish radio.

Desperate news. We need a home for alternative music in Ireland, #txfm played great music morning to night. https://t.co/ZFhhCitCTW

Goin to miss @kildarejoe on the #TXFM. The gentleman of radio – articulate, humorous, inciteful, & superb DJ
There better be a bigger plan!
