10-minute cleaning hacks to help you blitz your home this spring

Cleaning expert Casey Major-Bunce reveals her 10-minute cleaning hacks to help you blitz your home this spring.

Spring is in the air and summer is just around the corner. And what better way to celebrate than with a spring clean of our homes to tackle the mounting clutter and restore some order and organisation?

But despite our best intentions, busy lives can cause us to fall behind on our household chores and the pressure to blitz from top to bottom feels like a task we simply don’t have time for. And if it’s been a while since your last clean, it can be tough to know where to start.

That’s why cleaning expert Casey Major-Bunce, aka majormumhacks to her 450k+ followers, says the key to a tidy home is 10 minute bitesize cleans.

According to the cleaning guru, rather than spending hours and hours of your day on the whole house, she suggests focusing on small bursts and when you find the time.

As well as opening up on the best cleaning methods, Casey also speaks to Stocklytics on her favourite hacks, how to spruce up your mattress, and the most effective ways to remove tough stains from your sofa.

Speaking exclusively to Stocklytics, Casey shares her top natural cleaners and how to best use them in your home:

Use pot lids to clean your sofa

“This is one of my favourite hacks. Get a pan lid and soak it in bicarbonate, vinegar and dish soap and I wrap it in a tea towel and scrub the sofa. It’s not too abrasive but it works to lift stains and bad smells.”

Blitz walls with a flat-head mop and a sock

“Take a fluffy sock and soak it in a cleaning solution or you can make something natural with white vinegar, lemon juice and water. Place the sock over a flat head mop and run over your walls. It’s so quick and easy to give the walls a spruce up and you only have to do this every 6 to 8 weeks.”

Place scent boosters behind your sofa cushions

“Get scent boosters that are designed for the washing machine and place them in little netted bags. You can grab a bundle on Amazon for a really affordable price. Place them behind sofa cushions for when guests come over and they’ll be wowed by the fresh smell.”

Sieve bicarbonate onto your mattress

“Bicarbonate is amazing at lifting stains and odours and your mattress has to deal with a lot of sweat and stains, particularly if you have kids or pets. Strip the sheets and gently sift the bicarbonate over the mattress using a fine sieve. Leave for a few hours and then vacuum the excess off.”

Banish washing machine smells with lemon and toothpaste

“Cut a lemon in half and spread some toothpaste on. Place it in the machine on a high setting and let it run. The toothpaste is abrasive so it works to remove mildew, grime and dirt from the washing machine. The acid from the lemon is naturally antibacterial and helps to clean the drum. It’s great for getting rid of bad smells and making everything fresh and clean.”
