Aidan Turner crowned Best Television Actor at GQ Awards

Aidan Turner has been crowned Best Television Actor at the GQ Men of the Year awards.

The Dubliner, best known for his role as Ross Poldark in the hit BBC series, picked up the gong for Best TV Actor – just says after Poldark returned to our screens.

The 33-year-old was presented the award by fellow Irish man and Cold Feet star James Nesbitt.

The ceremony, which took place in the Turbine Hall at the Tate Modern, saw Calvin harris named as Best Solo Artist – just hours after it was announced that his ex Taylor Swift had split for her new beau Tom Hiddleston.

Before taking home the award, Calvin told the audience how this time ten years ago – he quit his job at Marks & Spencer and decided to pursue a full-time career in music.

“This is a big week for me because this week 10 years ago was the week I left Mark & Spencer Simply Food in Clapham South, where I carried out such tasks as date rotating sandwiches and showing old ladies where the salmon got moved to. Those were my two tasks.

“So it’s been 10 years since I also got a proper manager, not just Jill in the bakery.”

Sir Michael Caine was honoured as this year’s Legend for his contribution to cinema, while American comedian Amy Schumer was named as Best Woman at the ceremony.

As Amy took to the stage, she joked, “Finally we are celebrating men!”
