Bertie's next? RTE bosses considering drama based on Bertie Ahern's life following Charlie success

RTE bosses have not ruled out creating a TV series on disgraced Taoiseach Bertie Ahern following the massive success of Charlie.

The three part drama brought in massive ratings for the station and has made bosses look at other political figures for future series.

The gripping three part series has proven to be one of RTE’s most successful projects after ratings winner Love/Hate.

Bertie’s next: RTE bosses are not ruling out a drama based on the ex-Taoiseach

The first and second episodes of Charlie reached 724,000 and 726,000 respectively while the Sunday finale reached 607,000 viewers.

It reached more viewers than the 605,000 who tuned into The Late Late Show on Friday or the 591,000 who watched The Voice of Ireland on Sunday.

And while RTE bosses have yet to decide on whether a series based on Bertie will be commissioned, they are not ruling anything out.

“We would never rule out any potential proposals without fully considering them,” a source told The Star.

“It’s far too early to talk about any dramas being commissioned because it’s a lengthy process.”
