Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan teases ‘special’ moments for her character in season 3 of the show

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan has teased “special” moments for her character in season 3 of the show.

The actress plays Penelope Featheringotn in the hit Netflix series, appeared on Wednesday’s The One Show and discussed the highly anticipated season.

The series which follows the eight Bridgerton siblings attempting to find love, will focus on Penelope and Colin Bridgerton’s (Luke Newton) love story this season.

The 37-year-old told hosts Lauren Laverne and Jermaine Jenas that her character is “always having a terrible time.”

However, Nicola hinted that things are looking up for her this season and revealed: “It is eight months filming for a season, it changes so much, it is a very action packed season.”

“I got to see some last night and I was bouncing off the walls with excitement, it is brilliant, it is written brilliantly. I’m so proud of the cast and crew, but it is a special one.”

Netflix fans were sent into a frenzy last year during the Tudum: A Global Fan Event as they released a first look at Bridgerton season three.

The Galway native read the lines of Lady Whistleton, who is usually voiced by Julie Andrews, saying: “Dearest gentle reader, we have been apart for far too long. At last, London smart set has made its return and so too has this author.”

“As the season begins, the question on everyone’s minds is, of course: Which newly minted debutant will shine the brightest?”

“The crop this year, appears to be rather dazzling indeed. Unfortunately, not every young lady can attract the light.”

Speaking to People magazine, the Galway native said: “Season one was about passion, season two was about longing, and I think season three is romance, all the way. It’s just so romantic.”

Nicola revealed that even the cast and crew were touched by the intimacy of some of the scenes.

The Irish actress admitted: “There were a lot of moments on set where we filmed something and we’d turn around and everyone was sort of clutching their chest being like ‘Oh my God.’ It was that kind of love.”

The Derry Girls star revealed that the third season will stay true to the Bridgerton book series, and will focus on Colin and Penelope’s friendship to lovers trope.

Nicola also touched on her Bridgerton character’s strong ambitions.

“Penelope is like a woman on a mission,” the Galway native said. “She’s ready to go, ready to launch herself out into the marriage market in a new way.”

“She wants a whole new look, and she gets it.”
