Jazzy leads Irish names on the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 list

Jazzy leads a host of Irish names on the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 list for Europe.

The ninth annual list highlights the achievements of people identified as young leaders across a number of different categories – including media, healthcare, technology and entertainment.

Dublin native Jazzy, whose real name is Yasmine Byrne, featured in the entertainment list.

Jazzy first came to attention in 2020 as a member of the band Powerful Creative Minds, and the following year featured as lead vocals on Belters Only’s hit track Make Me Feel Good.

The Irish-Jamaican singer made history last May when her single Giving Me hit No.1 in the Irish charts, making her the first female artist to claim the position in 14 years – which also made her the first Irish woman to reach No.1 on Spotify since its inception in 2012.

The song was also nominated for best international single at the Brit Awards this year, and she also won the award for Best Music Act at The Gossies 2024.

The youngest person on this year’s list was Irish actress Alisha Weir, who is 14 years old.

She shot to fame when she landed the titular role in Netflix’s Matilda: The Musical, and is set to star in upcoming horror film Abigail.

Irish designer Hope Macauley also featured in the retail and e-commerce category.

The 27-year-old launched her knitwear brand in 2018, and now employs 20 knitters across Northern Ireland hand-making cardigans, bags and more in a unique needle-free method.

While annual revenues stand at about $500,000, Macaulay’s creations have been featured on magazine covers and worn by celebrities including Halsey, Jennifer Hudson and Naomi Osaka.

Her items are sold in 80 countries, in stores like Anthropologie and Free People.

Other Irish names on the Forbes list were Robbie Scott and Cian Donovan in the science and healthcare category.

The pair co-founded Akara Robotics in 2019 to automate hospital processes and alleviate staff shortages.

Their flagship product, a disinfection robot, decontaminates rooms up to 20 times faster than a human cleaner, and is currently being used in six hospitals around the world.

Oisín McGrath, co-founder of Galenband, was also named in the same category.

The company is combining an upper-arm band with AI algorithms to monitor patients for the most common deadly heart rhythm abnormality.

He’s raised $8.8 million in funding, mostly from Enterprise Ireland, to conduct clinical trials and apply for regulatory clearance.

In tech, the three founders of Dublin based start-up Kota were named – Deepak Baliga, Luke Mackey and Patrick O’Boyle.

Kota is an employee benefits software platform, which is integrated with health insurance, life insurance and pension providers.
