Robert Sheehan on new movie role: 'I was motivated by terror'

Robert Sheehan has admitted he was scared of messing up his latest movie role.

The Love/Hate star plays a man with a Tourette’s syndrome in The Road Within, alongside Dev Patel.

Opening up about playing someone with the difficult illness, Robert said the role was emotional. “There was a lot of homework to do – largely motivated by terror, the fear of getting it completely wrong,” he said.

Scared: Rob took on a huge task

“I had five or six months before we started shooting, so I had a long period where I could do research.”

“You’re in constant suppression mode. That was the challenge of it,” he told the Irish Times.

“Any external force, anything that causes anxiety and fear, will cause spasms to ripple up to the surface. So you’re constantly sitting on those spasms.”

Misfits: Rob feels pressure after landing such a big role

Meanwhile the Robert admitted although he is grateful for his role in Misfits, he is always trying to get the next big part.

“Dev had the same thing with Slumdog Millionaire that I had with Misfits,” he said.

“They are great roles but they’re so defining in your career. “It’s the job that’s really beneficial, it’s the one that everybody loves – and suddenly you’re left with the challenge of putting it behind you.”
