Revealed: The TEN best shows on RTE over the Christmas period

It’s almost Christmas time, and RTE have released the highlights of what we’ll be watching over the festivities.

And there’s a good solid amount you won’t want to miss – from Ryan Tubridy’s Niall Horan documentary, to lots of Ed Sheeran.

This year, Kathryn Thomas and Paddy McKenna will be ringing in the New Year, while Ray D’Arcy is putting celebrities and their pooches through a mad new gameshow.

Here’s our ten best shows on RTE over Christmas, as well as a sneak peak at what’s on.

Hard assignment: Tubs meets Niall for show | RTE

1. When Ryan Met Niall – RTE 1

Ryan Tubridy gets the jobs all the teen girls want – in this case, going off to meet Niall Horan.

As Goss.ie told you was coming, the Late Late Show host heads off to Mullingar to talk to his family, friends, and people who were part of his childhood.
And as briefly seen on the Toy Show show, he catches up with him during the middle of One Direction’s sold out stadium tour of America for a back stage chat.

2. Ed Sheeran Up Close – RTE 2

We already know he’s an absolute legend after his appearance on the Late Late Toy Show.

Now expect Ed to make us love him just a tiny bit more (if that is possibly) as he chats his life and career with Eoghan McDermott. And of course, there are special music performances.

3. Totes 2014 – RTE 2

You may have hated Totes 2013 last year, but we loved it – and can’t wait for the 2014 version.

2FM’s Eoghan McDermott – and RTE’s man of the moment – takes a look through the top showbiz, news, and sports stories of the year. But, you know, not the boring ones.

4. Republic of Telly – RTE 2

Republic of Telly – thank God – doesn’t want to miss out on the festivities over Christmas.

So they’ve only gone and put together some seasonal sketches – including a nativity themed visit with Bridget and Eamon. Amazing.

5. Superstar Dogs – RTE 1

Things that have been missing from RTE in years gone by is definitely a gameshow involving celebrities and their dogs.

Now you no longer have to feel that sense it is lacking, as stars team up with their pooches in Ray D’Arcy’s new project.

6. New Year’s Eve Live – RTE 1

So, this year there is no Miriam O’Callaghan, which may seem wrong. But Kathryn Thomas and Paddy McKenna will be hosting the New Year’s Eve show.

They will countdown the final moments of 2014 and ring in a brand new year – including highlights of the 3 NYE concert in College Green. Expect Joe Duffy as a guest, moaning away.

This year, Christmas is just around the corner and Agnes already has her tinsel in a twist – and throw in a cost-cutting Secret Santa for even more, er, laughs.

8. Callan Kicks the Year – RTE 1

He’s back! Oliver Callan returns for his second Christmas special outing with ‘Dobbo’ at the helm of an acerbic and funny look at Ireland and the world in 2014.
