Johnny Logan admits he will NEVER do the Eurovision again – and says RTE need to scrap Eurosong

Johnny Logan has revealed he will never compete at the Eurovision again.

As new hopefuls are set to sing their heart outs at the Late Late Show Eurosong special tomorrow night, Johnny has admitted RTE should try a new format.

“The thing is what we need to do is firstly of all go back to the way Denmark are doing it,” he told Goss.ie.

“Don’t do it in the Late Late, do it in the studio they do the Voice in -get in an audience that’s just interested in that and make it bigger.”

Johnny added that he had no interest in joining the panel of mentors on the show, blaming them for poor choices.

“The people who have been running the national song contest in Ireland and doing the selection, over the years completely screwed it up,” he said.

“They cheapened it and made a complete haims of it. I feel no personal need to soothe their guilty conscious by taking part in it and then if it doesn’t do well letting them blame me – look we gave you Johnny but what else can we do?”

“We can do Irish music in the right setting, we know how to present it but nothing is going to look glamourous on the Late Late, nothing ever does.”

While the likes of Jedward and Ryan Dolan have represented Ireland in recent years, Johnny said we need to find singer-songwriters.

“The people that are successful now are like Ed Sheeran, we’re good at that and we’ve got loads of young musicians and singers,” he told Goss.ie.

“I’ve done the Eurovision. I’ve won it three times, what do I have to gain by doing it again?”
