Irish Defence Forces officer photo bombs Michael D Higgins – thanks to his phone

An Irish Defence Forces officer has been the centre of attention today – after being caught on the phone live on RTE.

He was taking part in the Easter Sunday 1916 Parade – commemorating the Easter Rising by joining thousands of other officers as they walked a 4km route around Dublin city.

While the Defence Force was suited and booted like the year 1916, even bringing out old tanks for the parade, one officer forgot to turn off his phone, right as President Michael D Higgins walked past the cameras.

Take a look:

After the video went viral, a statement was released insisting the officer was just doing his duty.

“The officer in the picture is a member of the Press Office of the Defence Forces and was taking a call from the journalist at the time as part of his duties.

“He was in the Media position in front of the GPO and was tasked with providing the media with information about our participation in the events.

“He was not acting inappropriately.”
