Eve Hewson has been cast as Maid Marian in the upcoming big screen adventure Robin Hood: Origins.

The 24-year-old beat off stiff competition to get role after it was reported over 100 actresses were considered for the part.

The Dublin actress will reportedly star alongside Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton who is negotiations to play the folk hero.

The movie is due to go into production next summer with Peaky Blinders director Otto Bathurst behind the lens.

According to Deadline.com, Leonardo DiCaprio is producing the film through his company Appian Way.

Meanwhile, the daughter of Bono will next be seen in cinemas in the Tom Hanks-starring Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies at the end of November.
