Alan Hughes has slammed comedic Oliver Callan after the funny man slagged off his live TV proposal.
The TV3 host, who got down on bended knee to his partner of 22 years live on Ireland AM, was slammed by the mimic who branded the engagement as “self-promotion”.
However, the TV presenter branded Oliver, who came out on The Saturday Night Show in 2011, “a bitter old queen”.
“This is coming from the guy who came out on a Saturday night chat show? If that’s not attention-seeking I don’t know what is,” he said.

“He obviously needs to sell tickets for his tour but if that’s the type of bitter old queen we have in Ireland then I don’t know. I pity his boyfriend. Oliver needs a reality check.”
Speaking about the engagement, Alan admitted it was the perfect time for him to propose to his long-time love Karl Broderick.
“I just thought this is the perfect time to tell Karl how much I actually love him,” he told the Mirror.

“He proposed to me after I won Celebrity Salon and we became civil partners but now that we can be legally married in the eyes of the law, we didn’t want to wait.
“I just wanted to bring a bit of happiness into someone’s life and that was my husband of 22 years, and it’s made us both very happy,” he added.
