Rebekah Vardy thanks Portuguese firefighters for their bravery – after being caught up in ‘terrifying’ bush fires

Rebekah Vardy has thanked Portuguese firefighters for “risking their lives” after her family prepared to evacuate their holiday home amid terrifying bush fires.

Taking to her Instagram Story on Thursday, the 40-year-old shared a message explaining how grateful she was to the heroic firefighters.

Her message, written in Portuguese, read: “Waking up very grateful to the fire department that works tirelessly risking their lives to save ours. Thank you, thinking of everyone. Very scary.”

Rebekah also shared a video of a firefighting helicopter flying over head, and captioned it: “These guys are incredible.”

On Wednesday, Rebekah and her five children prepared to evacuate their luxury Portuguese villa after being caught up in the “terrifying” bush fires.

Wildfires have been ripping through Europe this summer, with Portugal badly hit.

The family could see smoke everywhere as bush fires raged around their £8 million villa, as water supplies were cut off to the exclusive resort.

Her husband Jamie is currently in Leicester for pre-season, but was said to be in constant contact with his wife and five children.

On Wednesday, a source told The Sun, “It’s been horrifying. Their neighbours have all been evacuated and one by one residents are being told to leave their homes.”

“Becky can see smoke everywhere and she’s terrified about the kids breathing it in.”

“The water is also down so she’s relying on bottled water which, obviously, there is only a finite amount of at home.”

“Jamie and their friends and family back home have all been really worried. Things are developing by the hour but she’s praying the fire brigades, who have been brilliant, can get things back under control,” they continued.

The Vardy’s villa is based in the luxury estate of Quinta do Lago, where stars including Alan Shearer, Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield, John Terry and Duncan Bannatyne all have holiday homes.
