Kate Spade’s funeral has taken place in Kansas two weeks after her death by suicide and hundreds of mourners paired their outfits with her handbags in tribute to the late designer.
Her family released a statement confirming the tragic news that her 89-year-old father died on the eve of her funeral.
Mourners at her funeral paused for a moment’s silence to pay their respects to Earl F. Brosnahan Jr, her father.
The family confirmed his health had been failing recently and that he was “heartbroken” by his daughter’s suicide two weeks ago.
Their statement said, “He had been in failing health of late and was heartbroken over the recent death of his beloved daughter,’ the statement read.”
“He was at home and surrounded by family at the time of his passing.”
Kate’s husband Andy Spade gave the eulogy at her funeral and other members of her family, including her brother Earl, addressed mourners too.
Father Donald P. Farnan, who gave the mass, told the New York Daily News, “Her husband just shared a little about how they met, their love story and how she was a great person.”
“He expressed his deep love for her.”
Kate was 55 years old at the time of her tragic passing.
