JK Rowling takes a swipe at Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson

JK Rowling has taken a swipe at Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, and said they can “save their apologies”.

The author of the hit series has addressed their criticism of her harmful views on the transgender community, and suggested she won’t “forgive them”.

Rowling faced backlash from several of the movie’s stars after she shared controversial opinions and remarks about trans people in June 2020.

Daniel, who played the lead character in Harry Potter, wrote an essay for The Trevor Project in support of the trans community, apologising “for the pain” the author’s comments caused.

Emma, who played Hermione Granger, also wrote: “I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.”

On Wednesday night, Rowling took a pop at Daniel and Emma after an X user wrote to her: “Just waiting for Dan and Emma to give you a very public apology … safe in the knowledge that you will forgive them.”

The author replied: “Not safe, I’m afraid. Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single sex spaces.”

Her comment comes after a review written by Dr Hilary Cass found that teenagers in Britain have been allowed to change their gender based on “weak evidence”.

After the report was published, Rowling claimed it was a “watershed” moment and that it “lays bare the tragedy” of allowing children to transition.

Under a new hate crime law in Scotland, the author could be investigated by police for misgendering trans people.

J.K. Rowling speaks with Matt Lauer on TODAY.

Rowling has frequently argued online that trans women are not women and vowed to continue “calling a man a man” despite this new law, which she deemed “ludicrous.”

The 58-year-old also said she would not delete social media posts that could breach hate crime laws.

Previously, she stated that she would rather go to jail than refer to a trans person by their preferred pronouns.

Despite this, Scottish police have said her comments “are not assessed to be criminal and no further action will be taken”.
