Jessie Cave shares health update on baby boy – amid his battle with coronavirus

Jessie Cave has shared a health update on her baby boy, amid his battle with Covid-19.

The actress, best known for her role as Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter films, gave birth to her son in October 2020.

Just two months later, Jessie’s newborn son tested positive for the coronavirus, and was subsequently hospitalised.

Appearing on Tuesday’s edition of Lorraine, the 33-year-old said: “He’s OK, he’s doing much better now.”

“It’s bizarre how it didn’t affect me but it’s completely affected him. It’s a lottery really.”

Jessie continued: “I was completely symptomless so it’s bizarre. He was completely fine, then almost two weeks later, he suddenly turned. With newborns, you have to be so hyper aware of every single symptom.”

“Within a day, he wasn’t feeding as much, his cry was different, it was like a different baby. I just went into A&E.”

Encouraging others to be hyperaware of changes in their babies, the mum-of-three said: “Everyone has to be so aware of a quick change because it could have been very different if I hadn’t gone in.”

“Everyone is so scared right now, understandably. For children, it’s not as overwhelming for adults. You have to be so quick to go in and don’t be scared of going in. Don’t wait basically, go.”

Jessie admitted the experience has been “very scary” and that “nothing has gone to plan”.

The Harry Potter star admitted that she got “relaxed in a way because we’re so used to lockdown”, however this has been a wake up call and a reminder of just how dangerous the virus is.

Jessie said: “I have so much respect for how dangerous it is, not that I didn’t before, but when it happens to you, it becomes so real and scary. People said to me, I didn’t think babies can get it, it absolutely can affect anyone.”

The author later shared a clip of her interview on Instagram, and shared some coronavirus symptoms to look out for in newborns.

She wrote: “Important signs to be aware of in newborns: ~irritability and sudden change in general mood and feeding pattern ~cold hands and feet ~runny nose and cold symptoms ~fast breathing ~change in temp.

“Basically trust your mother’s instinct….. and go in to hospital if you are at all concerned,” Jessie added.
