Elton John called as defence witness in Kevin Spacey’s sexual assault trial

Elton John and his husband David Furnish have been called as defence witnesses in Kevin Spacey’s sexual assault trial.

The House of Cards star has pleaded not guilty to 12 charges of sexual assault against four men at Southwark Crown Court in London, UK.

The case has just entered its fourth week and today, Elton and David gave evidence separately via videolink from Monaco.

The couple were called to testify regarding Kevin’s presence at their annual White Tie and Tiara ball in 2001.

Elton told the prosecution barrister, Christine Agnew KC, that he recalled the actor’s arrival at the event because “he arrived in white tie. He came on a private jet and he came straight to the ball”.

The 76-year-old also testified that Kevin stayed over at his house in Windsor after the ball, but had not visited on any other occasion.

The Tiny Dancer singer was asked whether he recognised one of Kevin’s alleged victims, and he said he did not.

Giving evidence last week, Kevin denied he is a sexual bully and labelled the prosecution’s case against him as “weak”.

The 63-year-old told the court that he could have had sex “all the time”, but found it hard to trust people because of his fame.

In January, the two-time Academy Award winner pleaded not guilty to three counts of indecent assault, three counts of sexual assault and one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

He also previously denied four further charges of sexual assault and one count of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent.
