Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine welcomes third child

Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine has announced the birth of her third child.

The actress, who is best known for playing Fiz Stape on the soap, secretly welcomed a baby girl with her husband Chris Farr six months ago – but kept the news private until now.

The couple have named their daughter Doris, and revealed in a new interview the special meaning behind the name.

Jennie, who is also mum to son Albert and daughter Hilda, told OK!: “Doris is a family name and I love that it goes with Albert and Hilda. They’re also all very ‘Corrie’.”

“The actress who played the first Rovers landlady, Annie Walker, was called Doris Speed so there’s obviously something in my DNA that means these baby names keep happening!

“People have said before that Albert and Hilda sound like two childhood sweethearts writing to each other during the war. Now Doris is the aunty who’s come to join them.”

When asked if she is planning on having any more children, the 39-year-old said: “I don’t think I could ever say never, not out loud anyway. But I’m getting too old and from a practical point of view I’m not sure how we’d manage.”

“We’ve got friends with six children and they drive an actual van. And we’re running out of space in the house. Hilda and Doris will eventually share a bedroom but if we had any more, I think me and Chris would have to sleep in the car!

“But physically saying no more? I can’t do it. I love having babies too much.”
