TV3 are spending a massive €4.5million making their new soap opera Red Rock, it has emerged.
And the TV channel has been given €800,000 of the costs of producing the half-hour show by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.
Bosses at Ballymount are hoping that Red Rock – which stars Game of Thrones’ Jane McGrath – will help them fight back against UTV Ireland after they stole Coronation Street off them.
It has emerged that TV3 are planning for at least two years of the twice-weekly show before they decide on its future.

New figures released by the BAI show it is the largest winner in the new round of funding – with the €800,000 going towards the 104 episodes they are planning.
BAI chiefs offered to give Element Pictures a maximum of 18% of their budget – meaning the whole show is being made with €4.5million.
Previously the BAI gave €600,000 to fund Deception – which TV3 had hoped would be the new Love/Hate in 2012.
They also gave €350,000 to help fund RTE2 show Damo and Ivor.
