TV3 host Laura Woods: 'Being a presenter is such an unstable career'

TV3 stat Laura Woods has admitted being a TV presenter is very “unstable”.

The former RTE host has been working on Ireland AM for three years, after leaving RTE in 2010 after having a staff contract since she was 21.

While Laura has landed her own show now on TV3, Renovation Nation, the presenter said she’s chosen a difficult career.

“I don’t know if at 21 I would choose this career now,” she admitted.

“Because it can be very unstable and when children come along security is paramount and it’s vital to have a sense of routine and this is not what this job brings.

“But that is what I like about it as well, it’s a blessing and a curse,” she explained.

Laura revealed that when she left RTE she struggled to find work, but luckily TV3 came knocking

“All industries were hit and the media industry was hit (by the recession), less shows were being commissioned so less presenters were needed.

“There was once several shows up for grabs and I could be auditioning for a few and then suddenly there were very few shows on the horizon, it was a dog-eat dog-world and very competitive.

“It was very tough but that whole time coincided with me having my first baby so my priorities lay elsewhere,” she told the Sunday Mirror.

“I was completely distracted by motherhood and adapting to that. Having been very career-focused for the
guts of 12 years.

“I was happy for it to take a back seat and when I felt fit and strong and well again, TV3 came along and I was happy to accept,” she added.
