True-crime fans react to ‘crazy’ new Netflix series ‘I Just Killed My Dad’

A brand new true-crime docuseries joined Netflix earlier this week.

‘I Just Killed My Dad’ follows the story of Anthony Templet, who shot and killed his father Burt on June 3, 2019.

The then 17-year-old quickly called 911 to report the incident and identify himself as the shooter, telling the operator: “I just killed my dad.”

The three-part docuseries, from the director of ‘Girl in the Picture’, explores the Templet family’s complex history — which includes allegations of abuse, kidnapping, and surveillance — to understand what drove Anthony to kill his father.

The streaming giant teased: “Anthony Templet shot his father and never denied it. But why he did is a complex question with profound implications that go far beyond one family.”

The series joined Netflix on Tuesday, August 9, and some viewers have branded it one of the “craziest” true-crime shows they’ve ever seen.

One fan tweeted: “This new Netflix documentary, ‘I Just Killed My Dad’ might just be the craziest Netflix true crime series this side of Tiger King. I think this is even more wild than ‘The Girl In The Picture.’ Just twist and turn after twist and turn.”

Another wrote: “I Just Killed my Dad on Netflix has got to be one of best mini crime docu series I have ever watched. It touched me on a very deep, emotional level.. Anthony Templet, wherever you are – I wish you well and I hope you’re living your best life.”
