Ryan Tubridy fuming the Taoiseach is too chicken to appear on the Late Late Show

Ryan Tubridy has revealed the Taoiseach is too chicken to appear on the Late Late Show – and has turned down weekly invites.

The RTE star says he feels Enda Kenny “has a responsibility to talk to the people” and needs to “stop hiding” behind local radio.

And Tubs, 41, says that Kenny is “on the run” and needs to appear on an event where masses are watching.

He said: “Bar appearing in an episode of Love/Hate or the Toy Show, which I don’t think he’ll do either of, he’s got to come on the Late Late.”

And Tubridy told his 2FM show that they are getting a refusal from his office every single week.

It could be because of the presenter’s infamous interview with then Taoiseach Brian Cowen during his debut, where he pummelled him with questions.

“I’ve told you many many times that we have requested the Taoiseach to come on the Late Late Show – I’d say every other week at this stage,” he said.

“He refuses every other week. Now, maybe he’s busy but since I have been on the Late Late Show, in six years the sitting Taoiseach of the day has come on the show.

“And I think it’s high time that the man who runs the country should sit in a forum that allows people at home, having a glass of wine or a pot of tea on a Friday night [to see him].

Plea: But Enda turns down weekly invites to appear | RTE

“It’s not Primetime, because that’s limited to political junkies in a sense. And it’s not local radio, which he did last night – and he wouldn’t do an interview with national media because it’s a small audience.

“It’s not the 6 O’Clock News, which again is limited to people like me who love the news. The Late Late Show is a programme, which a friend of mine once described as the national parlour room, where the Taoiseach generally talks to the most people.

“Even a state of the nation broadcast, which he seems to be in to doing, they bore people senseless. It’s a conversation and it’s high time he talks to a large amount of people who want to know in human terms what is going on.”
